School Holiday Activities 2017

Monday, 31 July 2017  |  Admin

OK, it’s that time of year again!  True to form, as soon as the school holidays begin it starts raining and doesn’t stop.  All those planned days out to the countryside or beach have to be shelved and you are faced with endless days with overactive kids trying to find things to do to keep them amused.

Art & Craft

We have found a great website that has some craft and colouring in ideas which might help.  Activity Village has loads of downloadable colouring, drawing and craft activities.  If you loved Diana, Princess of Wales, there are some pictures of her to colour in or a step by step illustration to help your child draw a picture of her themselves.

Some of the summer craft projects include a Make a Butterfly which you can hang up in the garden when it stops raining!  Or how about Design your own Flip-flops, the template for which comes in different sizes so will appeal to a wide age range.  Another fab idea is the Flower Face Mask which can be adapted to make a Sun Mask making the use of lots of different materials.  There are also lots of inspirational ideas for making an Indoor Garden.

Cooking

If the thought of your little ones in the kitchen, which is rife with danger from ovens, hot pans etc., fills you with dread then how about some Cool Cooking.  There are inventive recipes for snacks and meals without using heat on the Early Childhood News website which should give you some ideas.

Preparing food is a wonderfully creative activity which gives children confidence and encourages the development of fine motor skills.  It is good for boys to learn to cook at an early age to avoid gender stereotyping and is a wonderful way of learning about different countries through the use of different ingredients.
